ONE EYE on the HORIZON
Podcast
About the podcast
This is a podcast for anyone living with sight loss in one eye, and the challenges, changes, and surprises that come with it. It is a space for those still facing the fire and those learning to step into the light. Each episode shares unfiltered, real stories from people who have walked this path, exploring how they’ve navigated life, discovered strength, and found possibility after partial sight loss.
Raw, heartfelt, and uplifting, One Eye on the Horizon is a place to listen, reflect, and remember that even with one eye, life can be vivid, meaningful, and full of hope.
Why?
Because I lost my eye in a sudden and traumatic work accident in 2024, and I needed to hear stories of hope. The Doctors were telling me I’d be ‘fine’, but I didn’t believe them – I needed to see people further down the line than me who could show and tell me what it is really like. I also needed the inside track on all the quirks that Dr’s aren’t going to tell you.
I couldn’t find anyone talking about this stuff openly and honestly. There seemed to be a lot of support for people blinded in both eyes, but I was shocked at just how little support there is out there for us one-eyed pirates. So I decided to create that place and share lots of wonderful, inspiring stories so that those who come after us don’t need to feel so alone.

Do you have a sight loss story to tell and are you ready to share it so that others feel less alone?
If the answer is yes, I’d love to hear from you.
In order to create a successful recording with me you will need:
- About an hour of your time to have a video call, which I’ll record (our call usually lasts around that long, but I aim for the recording itself to be around 45 minutes)
- A smartphone or laptop with a camera (Running the latest version of the following internet browsers: Chrome, Safari, or Microsoft Edge. Please ensure they are up to date before our recording (as the software requires it)
- Stable internet connection and a quiet room
- A microphone (external is best – most headphones have built-in mic’s – these are fine. But your phone or laptop could work too if you don’t have a mic)
- Headphones, if possible (not essential, but these help reduce echo on the recording)
- An open heart and willingness to tell your story honestly
If you can meet these requirements please click here to fill out the application form.
Help spread the word
These stories need to be heard by the ears that need them. I need your help to get them to the right people.
Whether that means sending this web page to somebody you know might benefit from listening, or flagging places that would be great to have a poster displayed.
Your help in spreading the word would be hugely appreciated by me, and so very valuable to those newer to the journey of sight loss than us.
I would like to see posters advertising the podcast in every eye unit in every hospital in the country. I have posters ready to go, if you can take one to your local unit and ask that they put it up, please let me know. I’d be happy to post one to you. Or perhaps you’re a healthcare professional working in hospitals and could introduce me to the right contacts to send them to?
Collectively, I know we can make a huge difference, so please do get in touch if you have any ideas on how we can spread this message far and wide.
Let’s sprinkle these stories around like fairy dust and hope that if enough dust falls, they will hit the ears of exactly the people that need to hear them!
